3:5 Tribe Update - Uganda

Hi Tribe - it's been a while since I last emailed. I felt it was time for an update and to let you know I'm heading to Uganda for a short-term mission trip. This will be my 8th global missions trip. I'm very excited for the trip and I'll be going with a team from Northview Church in Carmel, IN.

We'll be working with our partner Bright Hope International. Bright Hope is working with local Ugandan churches specifically through the local church to impact their communities. We'll be working directly with the local pastors and their teams.

You can learn more about the trip here: http://thirtyfive.io/uganda-mission-trip-2018

What have you been focused on recently? Building anything cool or interesting? At Thirty Five, I've been busy helping clients build chatbots and interactive marketing tools among other things.

One area in my life that I continue to try and grow in is around the area of purpose. Can you relate to this? I want my life to count for a bigger purpose. To me, that involves leading my family well in addition to making an impact locally and globally. Many times I feel like I fail in this area. The mission trip is a great way for me to work on purpose globally. I'm dreaming of other ways to keep my purpose focused locally, but I have to admit I continue to let fear get in the way. I really don't have any fears traveling half-way around the world to Uganda, but for some reason closer to home seems harder.

Let's continue on this journey together. Let me know what you're working on or if there is anything I can do to help you continue to work on your purpose.

Until next time,
Bill

What do you want?

--- Hey, Tribe - Can you believe we're already in the middle of January?

This year I'm laser focused on helping people and businesses do MORE. Let me ask, what do you want more of? Think about it. Write it down. Now say it out loud. Seriously, say it out loud! Don't worry about looking weird if you're in your favorite coffee shop or public place. There is power in verbalizing what you want.

I want to help you do MORE and achieve MORE. So, what do YOU want MORE of in 2017?
MORE rest?
MORE family time?
MORE money?
Eat MORE healthy?
Exercise MORE?
MORE sales?
MORE quiet time?
MORE influence?
Serve MORE?
MORE freedom?
Give MORE?
MORE life flexibility?
The list could go on and on. You know what it is you want MORE of.

Now, here's my challenge to you:

1. When you finish reading this email, hit reply
2. In a few words tell me what you want MORE of.
3. Send it to me.

My promise to you:
1. I will not share your email with anyone.
2. I will encourage you when you least expect it.
3. I will help you in any way I can to help you reach your goals.

I'm looking forward to a MORE abundant year. Looking forward to seeing what you want MORE of.

Talk soon,

Bill

Be Grateful

Growth Hack Your Life: A How-To for Living on Mission

Hey Tribe,

I've got a super simple growth hack for you this month:  Be Grateful.

That sounds simple. Right? In reality, though it's easy to get focused on the tyranny of the urgent. It's easy to get consumed with performing, getting tasks done, while losing sight of the things that really matter.

So, let me ask you this. When was the last time you told somebody that you appreciated them?

Have you ever just sat down and journaled some simple lists of things to be grateful for?

No matter what life situation you are in. No matter how many tasks or things you are juggling. There are always things to be grateful for.

When we quit focusing on ourselves and focus on what we can be grateful for, our perspective changes. The clutter in our minds disappears. Allowing us the ability to focus on the wildly important things, not the urgent.

As we move into the Holiday season, take some time to count your blessings and be grateful. It will change your perspective. And it just might change your life.

Have an awesome November.

Until next time,

Bill

P.S. Neil Richmund, a friend of Thirty Five, is doing a workshop in Indianapolis area on Nov 10 on how to automate and optimize the power of technology to grow your business faster. If that sounds cool to you, check it out: https://neilrichmund.com/automate-workshop/

Growth Hack Your Life: Be Intentional

Growth Hack Your Life: A How-To for Living on Mission

Hi Tribe,

In this week's growth hack, I'm focusing on living a life worthy of the calling received. In your personal life, professional life and spiritual life, seek your calling. If you're struggling to find this, then take a look at the place and position you have in life and focus on doing something worthwhile based on where you are in life.

Fortunately, I have had the experience to see things in a 3rd world that most will not get to see in person. I'm here to tell you that the boys on the lake are real. After seeing the injustices and the poverty, I have come away wanting more, feeling stronger, and feeling empowered. However, there is an opportunity when faced with these realities to take on a doomsday mentality. I challenged myself as I'm challenging you to always choose to fight.

Honestly, this week's growth hack email is more for me than it is for you. You see, I've been in the pit for a long time now. I put on a good facade, but I've let myself get trampled down, and I've let negative emotions and fear run my life. It's time for a change.

Anybody with me on this journey? If so, do something today out of your comfort zone to benefit another person.  Be intentional. I have recently come to realize that you find your life when you decide to lose it.

If you'd like to learn more about my trip to Ghana, go here:  The Boys on the Lake.

Until next time,

Bill

Growth Hack Your Life: A How-To for Living on Mission

Growth Hack Your Life: A How-To for Living on Mission

Hi Tribe,

Welcome to the first Growth Hack Your Life email series. I'm excited to share with you life hacks I have learned over the years to help me live my life on mission: spiritually, personally, professionally. My hope is that you gain some insight or find an interesting hack that makes you think, laugh or share.  I used to blog a lot and share on social media, but then I went dark.  I'm feeling restless and think it's time to start sharing again.

This will be an ongoing series (once or twice a month) of encouragement, tips, tricks, hope and hacks to help you live on mission.

First hack: Ever want to send your future self some motivation/words of wisdom? On futureme.org you can write emails that are sent on a future date.  Give it a try!

Have you ever heard of a guy named Joshua in the Bible?  He was seriously a good leader.  One of my favorite quotes from him is found in Joshua 3:5 "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." He was getting ready to lead the people into a new land.  To consecrate simply means to set apart or dedicate. If you want a deeper dive on his life, read Joshua chapters 1 - 3.  There is so much we can learn about boldness and leadership in those chapters.

How can you apply that to your life today?

Finally, I'm going to Ghana soon! It will be my 3rd trip to Ghana and my 6th international mission trip. I'm going to help support International Justice Mission in the work they are starting there. I'll share more details later.

Living on Mission,

Bill

Dream Day - Follow Up - 1 Raccoon Saved

Definitely glad I did the Dream Day afternoon. I’m working to build that up to an entire day. What if I could do it once a week?

I found a park and it was empty, probably because it was raining. There was a huge covered picnic shelter, so it was great for me. I started reading my Bible, but I kept hearing some random scratching coming from a nearby garbage can. My curiosity arose so I went to check it out. I thought maybe a cat, squirrel or raccoon had climbed inside and was stuck. Well, after a couple of minutes I decided to kick the can over. Out popped a raccoon and it just froze there. Then, it got its bearings and took off for the woods. I told Holli I saved a raccoon’s life and she just thought I was crazy. She said I was lucky it didn’t attack me. Hmm, that wouldn’t be good.

So I kept on dreaming and then all of a sudden this big dog shows up from out of nowhere. It seemed friendly, but didn’t have a collar on, so I didn’t mess with it. It eventually left.

My mind is swirling around with lots of good scripture I was reading and listening to some of things God was trying to tell me. I took a lot of great notes and will definitely be doing this again. I spent most of my time in 1 Chronicles. Good stuff about David.

To top off the day we all went to Chick-fil-A for dinner for their family night. Camden got a snake painted on his arm and Caleb loved the ice cream treat and seeing the cow!
